Apple's tech jobs
Apple's tech jobs held mostly by white, Asian men
SAN FRANCISCO: Apple's high-paying technology jobs are primarily filled by white and Asian men, just like its industry peers.
A breakdown released on Tuesday by Apple Inc. showed 54% of the
company's technology jobs in the US are handled by whites and another
23% by Asians. Men make up 80% of Apple's technology workforce
throughout the world.
Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed his
dissatisfaction with the lack of diversity in a letter posted alongside
the data. He also highlighted the ways that the world's most valuable
company is trying to be more inclusive. The scarcity of women,
blacks and Latinos employed in computer programming and other technology
jobs at Apple mirrors the situations previously disclosed at other
major Silicon Valley companies such as Google Inc., Yahoo Inc. and
Facebook Inc.
