Mysore Dasara

New tool to get Mysore Dasara updates this festival season

MYSORE: There is new way to access information related to Dasara in Mysore. WhatsApp messenger can be used to get the Dasara updates this season.

The officials on Monday unveiled plan to use the instant messaging service given that smartphones users are on the rise and are accessing it widely. As the app allows text messaging in addition to sending images, video and audio media messages, the officials are banking on it to reach the Dasara enthusiasts, who need to register to get the updates.

According to the information published on the Dasara website, the district administration, which is managing the content, said: "Considering the fact that majority of cellphone users today use a smart phone and are active on the messenger application WhatsApp, the district administration has decided to send out Mysore Dasara 2014 updates directly to the users' phones via WhatsApp." It said that the subscribers need to register for the service by submitting the mobile number on which they use WhatsApp.

This is first time that the officials have offered to extend information about various events related to the 10-days festival on an instant messaging subscription service. WhatsApp has over 50 lakh monthly active users worldwide. This comes a year after the DC C Shikha registered the Dasara domain and extended information online.

There is more for the visitors with a camera enabled cellphone. The officials have allowed posting of photographs taken by the visitors on its official website. Calling it 'Public Eye', the officials said this is to get them actively involved in the celebrations. The Public Eye is a feature wherein photographs clicked by the public will be featured in the website. The photographs can be emailed to mysoorudasara@gmail.com.

Meanwhile, the district minister V Srinivas Prasad launched the Dasara 2014 website. This comes exactly one month ahead of the launch of the 10-days festival.
