'Technology is at its best when it is able to transform lives and increase productivity,' Anand Kumar says

PATNA: Super 30 founder and mathematician Anand Kumar on Monday said, "Technology is at its best when it is able to transform lives and increase productivity. That is what India needs. That is what the society needs. It is high time our talented young workforce realizes its responsibilities towards this end".

Kumar was delivering a special lecture at entrepreneur summit organized by IIT Kanpur. He said IITs are India's premiere institutions and the IITians need to the torchbearers of the society to take it to new heights. "It is time we start looking beyond individual success and contribute to the societal cause. In a technology-driven society, it is important to ensure that fruits reach everywhere," he added.

He said that there was a growing need for the IITians to get into research and training, and the country needed them. "Today, despite having some of the finest brains, we suffer from brain-drain, as our brilliant minds move out. It is the responsibility of the country also to provide a conducive environment to hold talented youth and give them the right conditions to work here," he added.

Kumar said that teaching was another important area of concern at all levels. "We have now several new IITs and many more are in the pipeline, but shortage of faculty members is a big problem because most of the students get into plum jobs after B.Tech. If IITians carry on beyond B.Tech, country will not only have excellent researchers, but also fine bunch of teachers," he added.

"Technology is at its best when it is able to transform lives and increase productivity. That is what India needs. That is what the society needs. It is high time our talented young workforce realizes its responsibilities towards this end," he added.

Anand's Super 30 which helped children of labourers, tea stall owners and peons in Bihar reach the prestigious IIT engineering institutes exhorted the IITians to contribute to the progress of the country in a more meaningful way by working in the rural areas and control the desire of working abroad for more perks and privileges.
